"Saudi Petroleum price war". <---- This is not a problem
If Saudi wants to sell there petrol at 20$ a barrel. The correct path to take is simple.
Temporarily shut down our petrol drilling. Cap the wells. And then put the Petroleum industry workers to work, building holding tanks....
Buy as much as they are willing to sell at 20$ a barrel, fill the tanks as reserve.
Then when they want to raise there prices back up, you immediately stop buying from them, uncap our wells, and put our entire petroleum industry back to work.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE...a Conservative approach!

@Archangel1111 There are economic reasons that could not have worked. First, because importing countries did buy the cheap oil until all available storage space, including ships, was full. Second, because the US oil shale fields have high overhead costs, so that stopping their income for even a month bankrupted a lot of them.
Saudi and Russia planned it that way. Unfortunately they are not within the reach of US antitrust law.
