Our Country is Not Flourishing
It was a practically a tradition for the Communist Party General Secretary in Czechoslovakia to begin his New Year's address with the phrase: Naše země vzkvétá - Our country is flourishing. What then followed was a hour long exercise in gas-lighting, telling the country lies that essentially no one believed.
In Vaclav Havel's first New Year's address after becoming President of Czechoslovakia over 30 years ago, he said quite the opposite: Naše země nevzkvétá - Our country is not flourishing, and proceeded to precisely explain why. He said he wasn't put in the position of president to lie as his predecessors did, and went on to describe the economic absurdities, political injustices, and human rights abuses of the previous government. It was a beautiful and liberating thing - for those interested, I've included a English subtitled 5 minute video of it below. The parallels to our present situation are eerie.
If I could have one request concerning the politics of our country, I'd ask that when the next patriot is inaugurated, he would say precisely this: Our country is not flourishing, and lay out precisely the damage the corporatists, globalists, socialists, and their fellow travelers have done to our nation and to the world, precisely because a hard truth is always better than a comfortable lie.
