Matches my own observations. People in night clubs, particularly men, usually look miserable. It's generally a waste of time - 99% chance you will not get laid, and even if you do, nothing deeper will come of it. The music is too loud to think, let alone talk, and is generally some kind of terrible hip hop or pop music that no one actually likes. The only way to cope is to drink yourself into submission with overpriced shots.
Dave makes all these points. But there's more going on.
Dancing is fundamentally a mating ritual, and is universally observed in human cultures. Mating rituals are highly specific to the organism in question. Likewise with the various human subspecies, dancing takes a variety of forms.
Looking at traditional European dances, ranging from folk/peasant dances to aristocratic waltzes, some common themes emerge. First, the dances are highly formalized, with a set series of steps, with specific roles for man and woman. Second, partner switching is practically mandatory: in some cases, it is built right into the dance; in others, it is simply considered extremely rude to refuse a dance; in all cases, it is understood that no deeper commitment is implied by the dance itself. Third, the music is typically quiet enough to enable some degree of conversation during the dance.
Such dances are perfectly calibrated to the emotional and eugenic needs of Europeans. Emotionally, they help Europeans to overcome their innate shyness: since a girl can't say no, and since nothing further is implied by accepting, the barrier to asking for a dance is hugely reduced. Eugenically, the formalized dance steps enable potential mates to evaluate one another for physical grace, while the opportunity to converse provides an avenue to interrogate that mates verbal acuity. The ritual thus provides a holistic evaluation of intelligence.
Now, compare that to the modern nightclub: no possibility of conversing; no possibility of learning a set series of dance steps; no social understanding that nothing is implied by "accepting" a dance (which in a nightclub generally means the female enthusiastically grinding her ass into a guy's crotch when he approaches, directly simulating sexual congress and very heavily implying more to come). Zero intellectual component; purely physical. This is completely unsuited to Europeans ... and explains why Europeans are so goddamn miserable in nightclubs.
What that scene most strongly resembles, in fact, is what takes place around the fire in an African village: rhythmic music, wild intoxication, males grabbing females and dragging them into the bushes for anonymous sex. No surprise that it tends to be blacks who really thrive in the nightclub environment. We also might wonder what the long term genetic impact of a forcing an Africanized mating system on a European population will be.
