A Quick Irish Story

My Irish Grandma first came to the United States from Ireland in the 1930s. She rode on the very bottom of a boat - the lowest class of passenger. When all the Irish heard that the boat was entering New York Harbor, they raced to the deck to see the Statue of Liberty and the newly forming NY skyline. She did not go up to the deck with the rest of them. Instead, she pulled out her prettiest dress, put it on, and made herself as beautiful as she could be before she went to the deck.

She loved the thought of America so very much, that she wanted to be as pretty as she could be when she met her new country.
