He appealed because he lied to police about being of age when he was arrested & showed them a fake ID “proving” this, so they asked him about his crime & he incriminated himself without his parents present; his appeal was rejected. He served 6 years behind bars, then was paid over $ 7 million because politically connected people in NY politics thought arresting violent blacks was “racist” & another guy who was already behind bars for life separately confessed to raping the jogger, so supposedly this proved Yusef couldn’t have done anything wrong.
