"Shooting the breeze" as we used to say while hanging out with folks/friends & saying something you regret later, most want to feel like they're part of a group/crowd (pride of life) & a "slip of the tongue" (flesh kicking in) happens all to often. A tongue is relatively small but boy can it start fires, wars, & all kinds of bad things. Did the psalmist walk around with a muzzle on his mouth? Of course not, while this has application to all of us, it's also a prophecy concerning the Messiah who though rebuked when necessary, HE held back what HE said. HE was here the 1st time to pay for our sins (LAMB of God), but this 2nd time, HE's coming to judge. Call upon Jesus to save your sinful soul before it's too late.
