research led me to believe that it's bullshit. most Khazars were whites with blond/red hair and blue/green eyes, and the elites were Turkic mongoloids. Khazars were probably Sarmatians who got mogged by Turks and adopted Turk culture from the ruling elite, like cumans and kipchaks

umans and kipchaks may not have been Sarmatians though, maybe some other types of central Iranian nomad / Scythians

anyway, genetic testing and archaeological evidence has already disproven Khazar theory in multiple ways

there have been a few studies on Khazarian genes. easy to find on google. DNA of Khazars (the actual ethnic Khazars, not the Iranian nomads they conquered and ruled over) does not match that of Ashkenazim at all.

I phrased OP poorly, should say 'most inhabitants of Khazaria were white' - obviously the ethnic Khazars were different to their subjects, since Khazar elite were predominantly mongoloid and mixed-race (from warbrides), while their subjects were basically all caucasoid
