This Counter-Currents piece by @F_Roger_Devlin runs into many misconceptions and logical pitfalls, I can only shake my head. But from it, it’s easy to recognize that the existence of incels demonstrates the reasonableness of polygyny. https://counter-currents.com/2025/07/some-thoughts-on-incels/ “I intensely dislike the neologism ‘incel,’ a portmanteau term for involuntary celibate. It seems to me an entirely unnecessary synonym for what has always been called a ‘bachelor,‘ or unmarried man… ”Within the terms of traditional Christian sexual morality… an incel is simply a man who would like to find a woman, but who has not yet done so. As noted above, he is what used to be called a bachelor. Some woman might still choose him, but so far none has.” Being an incel is more a state a man has to recognize in himself. Whereas an ordinary bachelor might be able to get a girlfriend if he puts effort into it, an incel perceives that any reasonable amount of effort (at least, short of method acting and being disingenuous 24/7 his entire life, or asking out every girl in the phone book Jon Arbuckle style) will be unsuccessful, no mate will choose him. “These men coined that silly new term I dislike so much to describe themselves, viz., incels, or involuntary celibates. This was not a good marketing strategy. While the young men’s concerns were legitimate, people sympathize only with plain Janes who cannot find husbands. No one sympathizes with plain Joes who cannot get wives. Such men are mocked, often cruelly. And that is exactly what happened in this case. ‘Incel’ promptly became a fashionable insult.” Eventually, you have to stop trying to puff yourself up and pretending you’re other than you are, and prioritize knowing thyself. ”’Incel’ is now widely employed as an insult, and not only by men; I have also heard women delightedly mocking men with the term. And these incels they despise so much constitute their entire pool of potential husbands.” Women are not so dumb that they can’t distinguish between attractive guys who simply are dating casually or haven’t put in too much effort lately from those guys they would always find repulsive (at least unless they completely falsified their personalities). “Let us return to women. Whereas some young men may be hesitant to ‘commit’ to marriage, as I said, nearly all women will tell you that they hope to get married. Let’s stop right there. The definition of incel, as we noted, was a man who does not have a woman but would like to find one. Doesn’t that mean that the young woman who would like to get married is herself an incel? Apart from being a woman rather than a man, she would appear to fit the definition perfectly: she would like to obtain a mate but hasn’t (at least not yet). No one ridicules her over this for one reason and one reason only. She is a woman.” The unspoken difference is that, if almost any woman were to be truly loose, she could easily find a mate. See the expression “opening your legs”. But the thought is as shameful to imagine, as it is silly to: the trouble for unhappily single women isn’t that they can’t get any sex, or land any boyfriend or husband, just not one who would be anywhere near to meeting standards. Whereas for lonely guys, the number of truly unattractive women is much narrower, mainly 400-pounder whales and the mentally disabled. This is obvious and it’s shameful Devlin would try to fool us. ”If one of these unattractive men should consult with a ‘hot‘ guy, he may be surprised to hear concerns of another sort: women are too damned aggressive these days. Mr. Hot may even be forced to ask certain chicks for their phone number just to get rid of them!…” So, why aren’t all the plain Janes wedding the Mr. Hots? It comes from a fundamental misconception. ”Now let us ask about what is required in a young man for him to become a husband... These female wish lists can get quite extensive and complicated, and often exclude ninety-nine percent of the male population by the time one arrives at the third or fourth item.” To be sure, I wouldn‘t put too much stock in these lists. People do not always know what they want before they see it, and are quick to compromise when they do. But while there are some guys who don’t make much, or like porn, or are short of chubby, yet women will recognize in them attractive qualities, some guys have a toxic combination of attributes that drives off virtually every member of the fair sex. After years of experience, they might realize they are incels. “But that is not what I mean when I ask what is required in a husband. I am thinking in far more modest terms. In fact, I will limit my own list of necessary qualities to just two which I think readers will agree are quite reasonable. First, the man must not already be married. You cannot marry an already-married man.” That’s where you’re wrong, F. Roger Devlin. A woman CAN marry an already married man! It is called plural marriage or polygyny, and it should be available to all White women. “I have explained repeatedly and at length elsewhere, this is what always happens when monogamy breaks down.“ By monogamy, does he mean something more than law and society enforcing only one woman for each man, and no sex outside of marriage? The way Devlin uses monogamy, you’d imagine it has to be some kind of natural inclination or feature of the psyche that exists outside of custom, but observing what happens when men and women are free to date and mate as they want, it looks like it does not. Romance often carries monogamous connotations, but essentially speaking it is not so: substitute the term “spousal bonding” for “pair bonding”, and the association disappears. ”It is essentially identical to what naturalists observe in wild primate packs in which the males compete to ascend the dominance hierarchy while females compete to mate at the top of that hierarchy—except that female monkeys, being without the faculty of speech, cannot complain about how unfair the whole process is to them. (‘Why won’t that alpha baboon “commit”? Why does he turn right around and mate with another female the same way he mated with me? Alpha baboons are just no damned good!’)” On the other hand, the hypergamous instincts that come out in women, and the male refusal to commit to just one woman, come out in a state of sexual freedom, and closely resemble the behaviors of other primates. But like these baboons, women suffer when men don’t take responsibility, while men chafe at being tied to just one woman, and fear being cuckolded. It seems to follow naturally that these concerns should be assuaged, by ensuring each man cares for all his women—but also that complaining women can’t impose a limit on how many partners and offspring their man may have. Alas, these benighted monkeys, who cannot express themselves in sentences, also cannot practice marriage. But our breed of primates, human beings, can, and it should be in the form of plural marriage! Where do Incel and Hot Guy, Stacy and plain Janes come in here? Incel should be happy for Hot Guy in his enviable situation, while Hot Guy should have sympathy for Incel, recognize that personality is 80% inborn, and count his blessings. Stacy should be thrilled she landed so fine a man, but remember her vocation is to love and be good to Hot Guy all her life, and check her jealousy however many Janes he invites to tag along for the ride. Pic: embrace hypergamy.
