“Collect all 4!“ Cards commemorating the late episcopal consecrations, that came with one of the beg letters the SSPX sends me. Honestly, been feeling gloomy and scandalized after Pope Leo’s attempted re-excommunication of the bishops, plus priests and members of the Society. From reading the ordeal members would putatively have to undergo to re-enter “full communion”, you would think the SSPX faithful were the world’s only schismatics! As The Remnant tritely put it, “In a related note, Bishop Terry LaValley, Bishop of Ogdensburg (N.Y.) issued a letter to his diocese warning them not to attend the SSPX chapel in his diocese and referred them to two other TLM locations. Follow-up questions to the diocese on whether or not these locations provide all of the traditional sacraments to the Catholic faithful were not answered by the diocese by deadline. “In addition, questions to the bishop requesting how many times he has warned his Catholic faithful against the grave sin of participating in false worship at the hundreds of schismatic and heretical Protestant ecclesial communities and multiple Muslim and Jewish worship centers were not answered by deadline.” https://www.remnantnewspaper.com/vatican-claims-sspx-excommunicated-themselves-here-we-go-again/ The Vatican’s decree defines those who “formally adhere” to the SSPX as overtly taking certain doctrinal positions, while admitting those who ”attended the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X solely for liturgical or spiritual reasons,” and “who, although aware of the tensions with the Holy See, do not reject either the Magisterium or the authority of the Roman Pontiff,” are probably fine. Since the Society doesn’t speak authoritatively and declare specific passages definitely heretical, it just contrasts pre-and post-Vatican II teachings and registers its concerns, I have to wonder why Rome bothered saying the laity were in schism too, since this has to apply to most of them. Also too funny to miss: in the Formula of Adherence presented by the Vatican, ”With regard to certain doctrines taught by the Second Vatican Council, or subsequent reforms in either the Sacred Liturgy or Canon Law, which may appear to some to be difficult to reconcile with previous declarations of the Magisterium, I undertake to follow a positive approach to their interpretation under the guidance of the Church's Magisterium…” https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2026/07/dicastery-for-doctrine-of-faith.html One imagines a simple Catholic struggling to reconcile that Study Group No. 9 document on LGBT with the Church‘s patrimony, reading this, then imagining St. Pius X wearing shades and giving the thumbs up. Anyway, the SSPX’s response hits just the proper note. “Among yourselves, if a father is asked by his son for bread, will he give him a stone? Or for a fish, will he give him a snake instead of a fish? Or if he is asked for an egg, will he give him a scorpion? Why then, if you, evil as you are, know well enough how to give your children what is good for them, is not your Father much more ready to give, from heaven, his gracious Spirit to those who ask him? (Lk XI, 11-13)” https://sspx.news/en/news/letter-holy-father-regarding-decree-dicastery-doctrine-faith-59956 #SSPX #MichaelGoldade #MarcHanappier #PascalSchreiber #MichaelPoinsinetDeSivry #CatholicGab #CatholicChurch #TraditionalCatholic #CatholicTradition #Catholic #Christianity #Luke #PopeLeoXIV #LeoXIV #PopeLeo #CardinalFernandez #Church #news
