Nice try. I hate fake news, but this is at least rooted in reality. A bill for this was in fact introduced, but it didn’t become law. https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/1/22/house-bill-seeks-death-by-firing-squad-for-corrupt-public-officials-1328 The guy behind this is Khymer Adan Olaso, of the Nacionalista Party. Would this be a good idea? Yes, but only as one punishment the judging party could select. A lot of corruption is just glorified getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar. In the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., father of the current president, famously enriched himself, but overall he was a good leader. It’s almost like he was just claiming unjustly withheld wages, so it would certainly be wrong in a case like that. But in many cases, corruption entails getting bribed to make decisions that are against the public good. One thinks of the famous “pay-for-play” involving a certain someone‘s email server. In such cases Olaso is of course right, an official corrupt in that way merits the death penalty. #KhymerAdanOlaso #Nacionalista #Philippines #deathpenalty #capitalpunishment #execution #corruption #factchecking #fakenews
