As for new nucleotides being added to the sequence, from a naturalistic standpoint, they would have to be reproduced from pre-existing material with instructions calling for the production of these nucleotides within the genetic blueprint. But if we go so far as to believe that new genetic material can simply appear out of thin air, then that goes beyond an act of nature to a metaphysical act.
