I believe that God wants us His children to be free---and that one valid way to conceptualize this freedom that He wants us to enjoy is through the mentality that each person, regardless of his/her political system (or lack thereof), has the same innate God-given (or natural) rights, which are bounded by the equal rights of other people. I might define a "right" as the authority to exercise power over the physical world around us, and I might categorize these rights as rights over our respective persons, over our respective properties, over our respective children within reason as they mature, to contract with others, and to defend ourselves from others' aggression. These last two rights justify us in chartering political systems to serve us, specifically by expertly assisting us in defending our equal God-given rights from others' aggression. Maintaining commonplace mutual respect for such rights establishes our rightful liberty, which I understand should be our highest ideal in politics---and that politics should ideally remain a small part of our lives. Our God-given rights may not be justly violated in the guise of the "common good," which concept is vague and debatable and often-abused by tyrants. This Libertarianism-dot-org video overviews this concept of individual rights, which are "negative" rights that protect us from others' infringements, not "positive" rights that assert claims over others' bodies and labors and such, which two categories are innately incompatible with each other. This latter category is often touted by statists like fascists and socialists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q4mJlHo2Fw #PoliticalPhilosophy #ClassicalLiberalism #Libertarianism #GodGivenRights #NaturalRights #HumanRights
