During Jesus Christ's First Coming as a Lamb to overcome both sin and death, and to provide us with a perfect example, He repeatedly faced rampant religious degeneracy that included hypocrisy, as far too many of His covenant people drew near unto Him with their lips while their hearts were far from Him. Sadly, most Jews ultimately rejected the Savior for the Caesar---but, gladly, America's founding generation instead cried "no king but King Jesus," and accordingly established a free society, including freedom to love/serve God as our heavenly King, in which the Savior could restore His Church. During Jesus Christ's Second Coming as a Lion or Ram to reign as King-of-kings and Lord-of-lords, I hope that He won't find His covenant people rejecting His Kingship yet again (as in 1 Samuel 8) for an Earthly king-in-all-but-name amidst rampant political degeneracy due to secret combinations. Jesus Christ has commanded His covenant people in these latter-days to uphold the U.S. Constitution in the tradition of America's founders, and He has never rescinded but only reiterated that commandment.
