This John Birch Society "Birch Beat" episode (#12) considers how contemporary Americans too-often neglect their self-education, while learning only minimally through formal means for careers, and also elevate ideology over truth, while forgoing deep scholarship for superficial facts---and how America greatly needs a revival of serious learning-and-thinking. I might add that education is useful not only for careers but also for religious service (if we stay humble), parenting, citizenship, and even enrichment---and that maintaining a well-educated well-informed society is essential for effective self-government, and can better resist subversive ideologies.
