Let’s be clear: Every Black person who rises in the Republican Party is NOT a DEI hire. Black Americans do not need anyone’s permission to lead, and we certainly don’t need to be told which political party we’re “allowed” to belong to. I’m a conservative, and I will call out racism even when it comes from people who claim to be on my side. The Republican Party should be a party that welcomes Black Americans, just as Abraham Lincoln’s legacy reminds us of the importance of freedom and equality. And to those who believe leadership should remain exclusively white: the political landscape is changing.
