Wrath is cruel and anger is an overwhelming flood, but who is able stand before jealousy? Proverbs 27:4 AMPC. Anger and wrath can cause great damage, yet this proverb highlights something even more dangerous - envy. While anger often explodes outward and is visible to everyone, envy tends to grow quietly in the heart. It hides beneath the surface, slowly poisoning our thoughts and attitudes toward others, leading to resentment and comparison. The first step in overcoming this is being honest with ourselves by acknowledging the uncomfortable or “ugly” parts of our hearts before God, whereby He can begin to transform us. God calls us to trust His plan for our lives. When we choose gratitude instead of comparison, envy loses its power.
