For every one that gets caught thousands more don’t. #new New Jersey Democrat facing charges for running a fake ballot operation that was discovered after she was pulled over for driving drunk with her young child in the car #newjersey Former Lumberton Township Mayor Gina LaPlaca, 47, served as mayor from 2021 to 2025 and is still a township committee member. Her husband Jason Carty, 49, is a longtime Democratic operative and Board of Education member. They are accused of writing fake signatures on the petition that got her onto the June Democratic primary ballot for township committee. Prosecutors say that multiple people whose names and signatures appeared on the petition told investigators they never signed it and never authorized anyone to sign on their behalf. Without those signatures, LaPlaca would not have qualified as a candidate. Carty submitted the petition to the Lumberton Township municipal clerk. It included an affidavit signed by LaPlaca swearing she “personally, circulated the petition [and] that such petition was signed by each of the signers thereof in his/her own handwriting.” Investigators determined both she and Carty collected signatures. LaPlaca faces charges of: 🟦Fourth degree making a false statement under oath, 🟦Third-degree knowingly filing a false petition, 🟦Two counts of third-degree tampering with public records or information, and 🟦Fourth degree falsifying or tampering with records. Carty faces: 🟦Third-degree knowingly filing a false petition, 🟦Two counts of third-degree tampering with public records or information, and 🟦Fourth degree falsifying or tampering with records. They are set to appear in court on September 21. These charges come after her March 2025 arrest - while she was still mayor. A witness reported her vehicle swerving across the centerline and nearly hitting a utility pole and oncoming vehicles, after she picked up her young child from daycare. Police bodycam showed her failing field sobriety tests outside her home; she denied drinking at first, then demanded officers call the police chief. Her blood alcohol concentration measured 0.30%, more than three times New Jersey’s 0.08% legal limit and open alcohol containers were found in the car. She faced charges including 🟦DUI, 🟦Child endangerment/abuse/neglect, 🟦Reckless driving, and 🟦Related counts. She pleaded guilty to fourth-degree child abuse and driving under the influence - she was sentenced to three years of supervision. In May, police were called out to her home on a domestic violence call. Carty was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation and harassment. LaPlaca later recanted in a sworn statement to prosecutors, saying: ➡️She had been under the influence, ➡️Behaved erratically, ➡️Made a false statement to police, and ➡️That no physical harm or intentional aggressive contact happened. She asked for the charges against him be dropped. LaPlaca has also faced a citation for driving on a suspended license related to the DUI consequences. #ChristinaAguayoNews X
