Independent and orthogonal studies (of IgG antibodies and antibodies that were positively reactive for S1 and RBD in commercial antibody tests) indicate that the pattern of serological and RNA (by PCR, sequenced and verified, unique mutations have been found on a plausibly ancestral 3037T sequence) positivity in the pre-pandemic period in Italy matched closely to each other by temporal distribution. A strain of SARS-CoV-2 must have circulated in this period in Italy. The question is which strain? Are these connected to each other in any way?
