The kickoff already had a rough start before trump even took the stage. Musical acts including Martina McBride, Young MC, Bret Michaels, and Morris Day and the Time dropped out weeks earlier, citing discomfort with how political the event had become. With the lineup gutted, FBI Director Kash Patel's girlfriend Alexis Wilkins stepped in to sing the national anthem, announcing the gig just one day before the show. Her sound cut out live on air, with her own backing band drowning her out, prompting one commenter to joke "Hello, D.C. police, I'd like to report a murder."
