@DimitriNosarev Good point. The war actually began in 2014, when Putin invaded Crimea. Putin is directly responsible for every death that has occurred since. Ukraine achieved independence from Russia in 1991, during the fall of the USSR. 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belovezha_Accords Ukrainians had a referendum and decided upon independence from Russia. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_Ukrainian_independence_referendum 3. The US, UK, and Russia agreed to protect Ukraine's territorial integrity in 1994 in exchange for Ukraine destroying the world's 3rd largest arsenal of nukes. China and France also signed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum 4. In 1997, Russia agreed to respect Ukraine's borders and not to invade. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian%E2%80%93Ukrainian_Friendship_Treaty 5. Ukrainian elections are recognised by the World as free and fair. The OSCE supervised elections. Ze won with 73% in a campaign of fighting crime and corruption, joining the EU, and restoring Ukraine's territory through negotiations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Ukrainian_presidential_election In summary, Ukraine is a democracy - Russia is not. Every province of Ukraine voted for independence from Russia in 1991 - even Crimea. Russian speaking Ukrainians are still Ukrainians, just as French speaking Canadians are still Canadians. The war ends when Putin leaves Ukraine.
