In a recent interview, William Shatner, the famous 'Star Trek' actor now 95 years old made some startling comments about his life and dying. When asked to name a passion that has heightened with age — especially after his two encounters with life-ending cancer — he said, “Staying Alive“ and went on to say (and) “Not dying − that’s always a good thing.” He reflectively continued; “I’m always anxious about that. I’ve thought about dying a lot.” But Shatner’s most poignant thought is one that is perhaps shared by the majority of people when he honestly stated: “I’m so not ready to die. It petrifies me. I go alone. I go to a place I don’t know. It might be painful. It might be the end.” As today’ scripture says, we all have the “Sentence Of Death” and while death is inevitable where we 'Go' is not UNKNOWN. The Bible is very clear that there are two possibilities after death and you are the one that chooses which place that will be. Scripture promises to all who believe, trust in Him, and turn from their rebellious ways that He will resurrect all those UP to a new life. This is something that you cannot trust yourself to do by will, thought, meditiation, achieving a state of internal peace, or by hoping in a vague, faint, and indistinct entity called 'The Universe' to take care of you beyond the grave. Death does not need to be the end, or painful, or the unknown. 1 Corinthians 15:53-57 gives us this assurance that: “This body that decays must be changed into a body that cannot decay This mortal body must be changed into a body that will live forever. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Friend, you can be ready to die because with Christ there is “No End” and there is no cause to be petrified nor will it be painful. However it is up to you to determine if you will place TRUST IN YOURSELF to think what comes next or TRUST IN CHRIST to lead you to a place beyond this life that is not painful or fearful where many others HAVE “Gone Before.” Your TREK to what comes after this life ends - and how you will get there - is always Up To YOU.
