More than 600 women served as Donut Dollies. Three never came home.. I wonder today how many American young ladies would choose to serve with the courage these ladies had today. She didn’t have to go. She chose to. While thousands of young American men were drafted and sent to Vietnam, Nancy volunteered anyway. Not once. Twice. From 1970 to 1973 she served two full tours as a Donut Dollie — one of the courageous civilian women who flew straight into the fire to bring our troops a taste of home. Helicopter rides to remote firebases. 18-hour days in the middle of active combat zones. Rockets and mortars raining down around her. Her chopper was hit by enemy fire… twice. Just a young woman who refused to stay safe while the boys had no choice. For a few precious minutes she gave them games, music, laughter, and real conversation — a reminder that someone still cared, that they were more than just soldiers in a war.“I knew I wanted to serve,” she said. “They didn’t have a choice to leave… but we did.” More than 600 women served as Donut Dollies. Three never came home. Nancy did. She carried those years in her heart forever… and never regretted a single day. Not all heroes carry rifles. Some carry kindness into hell itself. God bless Nancy and every woman who chose to stand beside our troops when she didn’t have to. #DonutDollies #VietnamWar #WomenWhoServed #RealHeroes #NeverForget
