He does what every six-year-old boy on earth has done since the beginning of time. The teacher sends a note home. The school recommends an evaluation. A doctor spends fifteen minutes with the child. And writes a prescription for a Schedule II controlled substance — the same classification as cocaine and methamphetamine. The child is six. Over 6 million children in the United States are currently prescribed ADHD medication. Six million. Drugs like Adderall and Ritalin that are chemically almost identical to methamphetamine. Given to developing brains. Every morning. Before school. Because a system that was designed for obedience decided that a child who moves too much has a disorder. The DSM... the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual used to classify mental illness... added ADHD with a vote. Not a blood test. Not a brain scan. Not a genetic marker. A committee voted it into existence. And pharmaceutical companies funded the research that validated it. And then sold the cure for the disease they helped define. $17.5 billion per year. That's the ADHD medication market. And it grows every year. Not because more children are disordered. Because more children are diagnosed. Because diagnosis equals prescriptions. And prescriptions equal revenue. And revenue equals shareholder returns. And shareholder returns are the only metric that matters in the old world. And it doesn't stop at ADHD. Antidepressants prescribed to children under 12 have increased by over 40% in the last decade. Anti-anxiety medication. Antipsychotics. Mood stabilisers. Given to children whose brains are still developing. Whose neural pathways are still forming. Whose personalities are still emerging. Chemically altered before they've had a chance to become who they are. The side effects listed on these medications include suicidal ideation. Self-harm. Psychosis. Cardiac arrhythmia. Growth suppression. Emotional blunting. And dependence. A child who starts these drugs at six may still be taking them at sixteen. At twenty-six. At forty-six. A lifetime customer created before second grade. And in juvenile detention facilities... it's even worse. Children in state custody are prescribed psychotropic medications at 4 to 5 times the rate of children outside the system. Not because they're sicker. Because sedation is cheaper than care. A medicated child is a quiet child. A quiet child doesn't require staff. Doesn't cause incidents. Doesn't generate paperwork. Chemical restraint disguised as treatment. A child who can't sit still at six doesn't have a disorder. They have energy. They have curiosity. They have a body that was designed to move and a mind that was designed to explore. And a system that punishes both of those things... is not a healthcare system. It's a control system. Funded by pharmaceutical companies who understood that a compliant child is a compliant adult. And a compliant adult is a customer for life. The new world doesn't drug children into silence. It builds classrooms where movement is natural. Where curiosity is rewarded.
