The beating happened in 2024 outside of a gas station near Walmart and Ruby Tuesday in Pooler. A video captured three men beating the victim in the parking lot, including kicking him in the face and stomping on his head. The victim can be heard screaming, at one point saying the attackers were k*lling him, while bystanders laughed and recorded. Sheriff Richard Coleman saw the video in early February and launched an investigation that led to arrests later that month. Internal emails show Assistant District Attorney Sara Moorhead contacted lead investigator Trey Conners and listed about 10 missing pieces of evidence that should have been secured before arrests. These included warrants listing the 2024 incident date, hospital records of the victim’s injuries, formal witness identifications of the defendants matching specific acts in the video, and an interview with the victim. Jones then emailed Sheriff Coleman saying that holding someone without a solid basis is “a deprivation of liberty, one that I don’t want to be responsible for, and one that I cannot tolerate.” Despite a recording showing the three men beating the victim. In a separate March 31 email tied to another case, Jones told Coleman to: 👮♂️Stop publicizing arrests on social media before investigations were complete, 👮♂️Increase training for the criminal investigations division, and 👮♂️Stop operating as a primary law enforcement agency. She wrote: “No other Sheriff I am aware of has operated as a primary law enforcement agency despite having the legal authority to do so. There’s probably a reason for that.” Jones warned that if the problems continued, she may decline to prosecute Sheriff’s Office cases altogether. Jones said that if the missing materials are not provided, the charges will be dismissed. The video establishes that an assault happened, but the DA’s office maintains it does not alone meet the burden of proof. Sheriff Coleman stands by the arrests: “I brought justice to a victim, to a situation, and to a family. I’ve honored the Constitution, served the people, and done my job. It is out of my hands now.” He added that he does not try to reconcile the DA’s assessment of the evidence strength. Jones has long faced criticism for a progressive approach that emphasizes diversion, rehabilitation, and reduced incarceration. Opponents have pointed to her office’s record of dropping or reducing charges in serious cases, including multiple m*rder prosecutions and have accused her of being soft on crime. Some of her critics claim this is just another example of her trying to allow the criminal to get off 'Scott-free' The three men charged are: 🔺️Motreon Lajuan Williams, 34, ➡️Charged with party to a crime of aggravated assault; identified as the alleged organizer) 🔺️Ronnie Scott Jr., 26 ➡️Charged with aggravated assault as one of the alleged direct attackers and 🔺️Jimmie Alexander Jr., 37 ➡️Charged with party to a crime of aggravated assault; identified as the person who recorded and shared the video, Investigators say the man was attacked because he testified in a double homicide trial. https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx6qqxPhoLFkXKtDRjmEFiZgkrei6sVoZp Two of the men were denied bond at a March preliminary hearing over public safety concerns. #ChristinaAguayoNews
