Off-Grid Indoor Oven: InstaFire Ember I really liked using the InstaFire Ember. It does take some practice—you have to learn how to control the heat, and there are hot spots in the oven, so you’ll need to rotate your food. Overall, it’s a nice little oven for off-grid living or when the power goes out. You can use sticks or charcoal outside, but I think that could make a mess inside the oven. The one downside for me: if you want to use it indoors, you have to keep Canned Heat on hand. Since I planned to use mine inside during power outages, which happened often at my house, that’s something to consider. Still, I think it’s a useful little backup oven for off-grid and emergency cooking!
