GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The National Transportation Safety Board released its final report on the May 15, 2024, incident where a barge struck the Pelican Island Bridge, leaving some stranded. The barge broke free from a tug boat due to stronger-than-predicted tidal currents, resulting in the release of about 20,000 gallons of vacuum gas oil, though no injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $8.4 million. Residents expressed concerns over transportation while the bridge, built in 1960 and set for replacement in 2025, spans over 3,200 feet. #Infrastructure #PelicanIsland #TransportationSafety #EnvironmentalImpact #BargeIncident #NTSB https://abc13.com/post/galveston-bridge-hit-barge-ntsb-report-states-captain-was-unable-overcome-effect-strong-tidal-current/19093364/
