#new Fast Fact: Indian migrant doctor potentially infected over 40,000 people with the deadly Hepatitis C virus and HIV, after the staff at his Las Vegas clinic reused syringes and single-use propofol vials on multiple patients for years. Any Bet this Doctor and his Office Billed the Insurance Company, Medicare and Medicaid the Full Amount for Brand New Needles and Supplies. #nevada Dr. Dipak Kantilal Desai ran the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada which triggered one of the largest physician-linked outbreaks in U.S. history. #lasvegas There were multiple confirmed infections, at least two patient deaths, and his 2013 conviction on 27 felony counts including second-degree m*rder. The case is coming back into the spotlight after an investigation revealed that Indian migrants have been purchasing fake degrees in the medical and engineering fields - then traveling to places like the U.S. and presenting themselves as educated professionals. Over 100,000 fake degrees were found, with investigators saying upwards of 1 million were purchased. (This doctor was not investigated for a fake degree and records show he completed residency training in New York) #newyork The practices at the Las Vegas clinic, owned primarily by Desai, ran from at least March 2004 through January 11, 2008. Staff drew propofol, an anesthetic supplied in single-patient-use vials, from the same vial or used the same syringe across patients. This allowed bloodborne pathogens, including hepatitis C virus, to contaminate the medication and equipment and infect numerous patients. Prosecutors said Desai and his team were more interested in saving money on equipment than keeping patients safe. The Southern Nevada Health District started investigating after an unusual cluster of acute hepatitis C cases in Clark County. Usually they see two to four cases per year. However that number spiked to 40,000 possible cases after the patients received procedures requiring injected anesthesia at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada between March 2004 and January 11, 2008. They were sent notices that warned of potential exposure to hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV due to “unsafe injection practices related to the administration of anesthesia medication.” This was the largest patient notification of its kind in the United States at the time. The clinic closed on February 29, 2008, after Las Vegas suspended its business license. Details: 🔻February 27, 2008 - about 40,000 patients were told to test for hepatitis B/C and HIV. 🔻There were at least two de*ths attributed to hepatitis C contracted at the clinic: 🔻Rodolfo Meana, 77, died April 27, 2012, after contracting the virus during a colonoscopy; prosecutors charged second-degree m*rder in his death. 🔻A second victim, Michael Washington, also died from complications tied to the outbreak. 🔻Confirmed directly linked acute hepatitis C cases: 9 (conclusively traced by investigators and CDC). 🔻Additional possible or epidemiologically linked infections: about 105–106. #ChristinaAguayoNews How about Torture, Castrate and then a Public Hanging on the Whitehouse Lawn for the Whole World to see.
