Mikie Sherrill is telling the noncitizens - including at least 400 who voted in U.S. elections - to take advantage of a taxpayer-funded $20 million legal defense program that will protect them from potential federal prosecution and possible deportation. Sherrill’s administration claims the non-citizens were registered to vote because of a glitch in the Motor Vehicle Commission software - however the company say's that is not true, and Sherrill's administration is at fault for the registrations. #vote The program, which Sherrill expanded by adding $12 million to reach more than $20 million total, provides free legal counsel and representation to illegal migrants facing deportation or removal proceedings. On July 21, Sherrill announced that 6,600 non-citizens were registered to vote in one year's time. Sherrill has refused a DOJ demand for names, dates of birth, nationalities, addresses, and voting details of the group, citing privacy laws and calling the request without legal basis.
