Zohran Mamdani was snubbed during an NYPD security briefing by the outgoing Rep. Adriano Espaillat while Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch forced an awkward smile, stood in front of Mamdani and didn't make eye contact. #newyork After Tisch took questions - Mamdani made a b-line for the door, with out acknowledging Tisch, making eye contact or speaking to her after the newser. #police Critics say this is clear evidence that Mamdani has gained the hate of many in his brief time in office. It happened at a press event focused on security preparations for the National Dominican Republic Day Parade set for Sunday. Espaillat, the five-term congressman and first Dominican American elected to Congress, took the podium, and deliberately ignored the mayor standing next to him. “Thank you, commissioner,” Espaillat said, warmly acknowledging Tisch. He then thanked NYPD Chief Ramolez and Chief Rivera by name for their work in northern Manhattan and the Bronx. He repeatedly looked past Mamdani, never making eye contact and didn't mention the mayor - not even a thank you or acknowledgment. Espaillat then emphasized his long support for the police, recalling how he started his public service career as president of the 34th Precinct community council in the 1980s “when crack ravaged northern Manhattan.” He said he was there to “express my full support to the police department.” The outgoing congressman and the socialist anti-police mayor stood stiffly side by side. As the two men crossed paths on stage, Espaillat did not make eye contact and did not acknowledge Mamdani. Body language experts say in addition to Espaillat ignoring Mamdani, Tisch was forcing a smile, and avoided eye contact with Mamdani as well.
