Abdoush came into the country in 1992 from Iraq and became a lawful permanent resident. On January 25, 1998, in southwest Detroit, Michigan, he intentionally hit a woman with a borrowed van. Court records say he tried to hit her, then continued on - made a U-turn, and came back at high speed, hitting and running her over, then driving away. She died from her injuries four days later. In 1999 he was convicted of second-degree m*rder after a bench trial; the conviction was affirmed on appeal. He received a sentence of 15 to 25 years and was paroled in 2014. That m*rder conviction is an aggravated felony under federal immigration law - which means he could be deported.
