You sit down to write. You open the document. You stare at the blank page. And your body says: NO! ‘Not today.’ ‘Not like this.’ ‘Not safe.’ This isn't writer's block. It's nervous system freeze. Your body has learned that being seen and heard is dangerous and that putting your truth on the page means risking rejection and judgement. You’re running beliefs that visibility = vulnerability… …that being read = rejection… and it's just not safe. So it protects you the only way it knows how: by shutting down your creative channel. No amount of "just push through it" will fix this. Because the problem isn't your willpower, it's your nervous system. I worked with a client who would “do the right thing” and sit down to write every single morning for six months… She'd open her laptop. Make a ‘focus blend’ tea. Line up her coloured highlighters and notebook. Set a timer. And then... nothing. She thought she was lazy. Undisciplined. Not cut out for this But when we looked at her pattern, it was clear: her body was in freeze response every time she tried to access her story. We started with nervous system regulation. Sacred space activation. Building an energetic spine that could hold her words, EFT tapping. Gentle permission: "It's safe to create." By Week 3, she wrote 2000 words in one sitting. And she told me: "I didn't know writing could feel this easy." The difference wasn't discipline. It was safety. If you freeze every time you try to write, your body is trying to protect you.
