ANYONE WHO instills, cultivates, affirms or in any way encourages any notion in the mind of a child which causes that child to seek or consent to chemical or surgical alteration of his or her body in any kind of effort to thwart, overcome, reject, conceal or disable the natural development and manifestation of characteristics common to persons of the child's biological sex, or anyone who imposes upon a child any chemical or surgical alteration of his or her body for any such purpose, is guilty of felony child abuse. ANYONE WHO encourages any child to adopt dress, deportment, or mannerisms inconsistent with predominant cultural norms for a child of his or her biological sex is guilty of misdemeanor child abuse.
