https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EdEXTHbWa/ THE ISRAELI EMBASSY JUST MOVED INTO A WELLINGTON BUILDING OWNED BY A FORMER ISRAELI ARMY MAJOR WITH A $550 MILLION PROPERTY PORTFOLIO. THE OTHER TENANTS WERE NOT ALL TOLD. The building is called the Fisher Funds building. It sits in central Wellington. It is owned by Prime Property Group, controlled by Eyal Aharoni, who arrived in New Zealand in 1988 to complete a masters degree in geophysics at Victoria University and has spent 36 years building one of Wellington's most substantial commercial property portfolios. The NBR Rich List puts his net worth at $550 million. His portfolio is now approaching $1 billion. Before he came to New Zealand, he served as a major in the Israeli army. The Israeli Embassy has relocated into his building. When that move was reported on the front page of The Post, it emerged that not all of the building's other tenants had been informed in advance. A 13-storey commercial building in central Wellington. Multiple tenants. Some of them found out through a newspaper. Fisher Funds does not own the building. Fisher Funds is a KiwiSaver fund manager that holds the naming rights to the building it operates out of. The CEO of Fisher Funds is Simon Power. Before he ran Fisher Funds, Simon Power was a National Party minister. These are the documented facts. The building owner. His background. The tenant. The other tenants who were not told. The naming rights holder. The CEO of the naming rights holder and where he came from before that role. All of it publicly documented. There is no law against a property owner leasing space to an embassy. There is no requirement to inform other tenants before a new tenant moves in. None of this is illegal. None of this required any public approval. It just happened. What is worth understanding is the context this sits inside. New Zealand broke diplomatic relations with Israel in 2003 after it was confirmed that Israeli intelligence operatives, Mossad, had been obtaining fraudulent New Zealand passports. Relations were eventually restored. The embassy reopened. It has operated in Wellington since then. The Israeli Prime Minister currently holds an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. That warrant is a matter of public international record. The Israeli embassy in Wellington represents that government. It is now located in a building owned by a man who served as an officer in that country's military, in a building that carries the name of a company run by a former minister of the governing party. Those are not opinions. Those are documented facts sitting next to each other. The tenants who share the building with the Israeli Embassy did not choose that. Some of them did not know it was coming until they read it in the newspaper. They now share a 13-storey building with the diplomatic mission of a government whose head of state is subject to an international arrest warrant. Whatever your view on the underlying conflict, the question of what your workplace neighbours are allowed to do without telling you is a reasonable one. New Zealand's relationship with Israel has always been complicated. The passport fraud ended diplomatic relations for years. The ICJ ruling on Gaza in 2024 found plausible grounds for genocide. New Zealand voted for a UN General Assembly resolution demanding a ceasefire. At the same time the New Zealand government has continued to maintain normal diplomatic relations, continued to receive the ambassador, continued to shake hands. The embassy is in Wellington. It is in the Fisher Funds building. The Fisher Funds building is owned by Prime Property Group. Prime Property Group is controlled by a former Israeli army major who has lived here for 36 years and built a billion dollar portfolio. Fisher Funds, whose name is on the door, is run by a former National Party minister. What you do with that information is up to you. #NewZealand #Wellington #IsraeliEmbassy #FisherFunds #PrimePropertyGroup #EyalAharoni #SimonPower #NationalParty #Diplomacy #InternationalLaw #ICC #GazaGenocide #NZPolitics #TheControlGrid #SoldWithoutYourPermission #WellingtonProperty #NZRichList #ForeignPolicy #PublicInterest
