Notice 3115 - 10-20-23 "The House GOP conference on Friday voted to drop Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan as its speaker nominee after a third defeat in floor-wide votes earlier today. Sources said that the conference had voted to remove Jordan as the nominee in a closed-door meeting. Jordan had even more Republicans vote against him in the third round of voting for the House speaker's gavel on Friday. 25 Republicans voted against Jordan, giving him just 194 votes -- far short of the approximately 217 he would need to win the speaker's race. It's his lowest total so far in the three ballots. Jordan had previously indicated he was ready to push for votes through the weekend in an effort to secure the gavel. "Our plan this weekend is to get a speaker elected to the House of Representatives soon as possible, so we can help the American people," Jordan told reporters. He called on Congress to "get to work" and cited the crisis in the Middle East as well as the looming government funding deadline on Nov. 17. It is unclear what the next steps will be for the conference. Some lawmakers had backed the idea of empowering Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry. They were asked specifically about the resolution by Rep. David Joyce, R-Ohio, to temporarily empower acting Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry as elected Speaker Pro Tempore for a fixed period. "I think we need to go through at least one more name (of a candidate) before that,” said one senior GOP." On that note... I can’t believe this group of 25. No plan, but get rid of the person that is trying to become the Speaker. This is ridiculous! I thought we could count on our House to get things done. You are playing into the hands of the Democrats. Sorry feathers are ruffled, but it’s time to pull together. It's clear they don’t want Jordan because they will be exposed criminals and traitors stick together. Only there for themselves! Too many hands in the pot on both sides. They ALL want something for themselves first. It's beyond obvious. A "President" who fills his pockets and a Congress doing the same. It's all ridiculous and America is looking more absurd to the entire World. For every day the Democrats and Republicans don’t accomplish something great for the citizens of America ..they should each individual person have to pay 10,000.00 to the people who elected them! They would stop wasting the tax payer money then! Every politician in Washington has proved to the world that they are not worth their pay! That being said... Matt Gaetz should be proud. I heard someone say this morning that the coach does not pull his quarterback out without someone to replace him. Gaetz had no workable replacement. Now 20 sum Republicans are playing hissy fit games, making it seem like the Republicans simply cannot govern. Democrats are giggling themselves silly with glee.
