Notice 3123 - 10-25-23 "A New Jersey school district canceled official school-wide Halloween celebrations, citing its diversity, equity and inclusion values and the purported potential for the festival to be offensive to people from various cultural and religious backgrounds. Dr. Ronald G. Taylor, the superintendent of the South Orange & Maplewood School District (SOMSD), sent a letter to families on Oct. 6 explaining why any Halloween celebrations in the district will have to be held after school hours. "As you know, SOMSD is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion meaningfully - not just saying the words but also promoting an inclusive school... Our aim is to build a consistent approach across the District as to how our schools observe and celebrate holidays and special events," Taylor wrote. "Each year, questions arise from families, students, and staff about what SOMSD schools will be doing regarding Halloween." On that note... Yeah, nothing says inclusivity like banning an event that EVERYONE is invited to. “Assistant superintendent of access and equity”... No wonder school taxes are so high (while test scores are in free fall) Always citing inclusiveness, but that means excluding people who want to celebrate a fun holiday because of a few. If they don’t like it. Stay home that day. So your child can identify as a lion..Boys can wear dresses ..Children can identify as what they feel like etc etc.. But a FUN holiday for children to dress up play pretend and go trick or treating is not inclusive?..How about if you don't wish to celebrate then DON'T!! ..Its discrimination infringing on rights of the majority to appease a small minority once again in Loon World!!!! .... Another example of pandering to to the 1%. If your family/child wants to participate, why are they being discriminated? Anyhow... It figures some Democrats again screwing up Halloween for the kids. But woke drag queens are just fine. This is the party you want, good luck ..they are taking everything away. One thing at a time. In any case... Local Democratic leaders have publicly voiced their opposition to this abrupt decision, describing it as an unnecessary blow to the morale of students at an important time in their lives. Why do Americans have to keep giving up our traditions to accommodate people who supposedly came here to experience American culture? That said... And no more happiness! Seriously, there will be a time when expressions of happiness are banned. After all, we wouldn’t want to make those of us with depression even more uncomfortable.
