«In later years, immigrants to Georgia came from Iran. They came from the island of 'Dzhu' and included a number of Marranos, Portugese Jews, who practised their religion in secret. In the dialect of the population of this region, the word 'Dzhuga' means 'Natives of the Island Dzhu' and was the actual description given to Israelites. When, some centuries later, proper names were given to the people of Georgia—with the exception of the noblemen—the descendants of these immigrants from the island Dzhu became Dzhugashvili, which translated means: 'The Sons of Dzhu'. The name Dzhugashvili discloses that Stalin had Jewish blood in his veins. He neither confirmed nor denied this. How many generations ago the Dzhugashvili-Stalin family practised the Jewish faith is difficult to say.
