THE FACES OF OUR ANCESTORS New statues of Greek Gods & Goddesses have been discovered in Turkey. Article: > "Excavations on monumental fountain ruins resulted in the discovery of a statue of Hermes from the Roman Imperial Period. Including its pedestal, the marble statue once stood over 5 feet tall. Other excavations of the site also uncovered pieces from statues of Aphrodite, Eros, Artemis, & Nemesis." Such archaeological finds are important not just for cultural & historical reasons, but for racial reasons as well: Statues of the Gods & Goddesses of our ancestors show what their ideal physical type was at that time, thus revealing our forebears racial ideal. Essentially, the ancient Greeks & Romans were trying to breed themselves in the direction of their Gods. But statues & portrait busts from the Classical period of ordinary men, women & children are also important, as they show us what our ancestors actually looked like - & hence they reveal their race. The statues uncovered today by archaeologists are almost always plain, bare stone. But when they were made, they were painted in a realistic manner. It's unfortunate that the colors have disappeared over the centuries, as a painted statue or bust would give us even further clues as to the racial appearance of their creators!
