Something I've been thinking about lately is how everyone is talking about who Trump's successor will be, Vance or Rubio. The establishment and various groups are trying to see to which horse they can attach their cart, and of course, the donors are jockeying for position on whom to fund, because they don't want to waste their millions. They're blindsided by the current reality and missing the bigger picture. It's gonna be Meatball Ron in '28. Ron DeSantis doesn't have the baggage of this current administration. He's a fresh-face. He's (relatively) young. He's infinitely more charismatic than Vance or Rubio. (To be clear, Vance is alright, I've nothing against the guy. I've nothing really against Rubio, either). But again and most importantly: DeSantis doesn't have Trumpian baggage. MAGA's not gonna want to hear this, because they want to pretend that everything is in their control and everything is pre-planned years in advance, so they can't really fathom a "wildcard" scenario where DeSantis cultivates a campaign organized and strong enough to challenge an incumbent card, but either way you run it, no matter the permutation (A Vance/Rubio ticket, or a Rubio/Vance ticket) - I genuinely think DeSantis will come out ahead. Why? Because Rubio and Vance ultimately *aren't* Trump. They don't have his X factor. They may be in his camp, but that serves as a disability here after these first few years. DeSantis is a fresh-break from Trumpworld right now, and there's a substantial amount of Right-wingers who want that. Something that could change that is if Trump suddenly started delivering on everything MAGA truly wants. Criminals get arrested. Obama and Hillary in shackles. Leftist groups sent to prison. Illegals ejected. Etc, etc. I don't think he has the political capital or will to deliver on any of that, but maybe he surprises me. DeSantis represents a safety release valve from Trumpworld while remaining relatively safe, and providing a younger, more in-touch presentation. Trump would have to deliver BIG TIME to avert this, but frankly, he's older. He wants to golf. I don't think he cares that much, so long as it isn't a vengeful democrat in power in '28. Make sense? Not an endorsement of Meatball Ron, btw. Just observing and reading the tea leaves.
