#EarthDay ๐ŸŒŽ When I was 12, I walked across the frozen 'Bay of Quinte,' on thick winter ice โ€” the beautiful Bay where I grew up in Ontario. ๐ŸŒ„ High above its shores sits the sacred lake Onokenoga (โ€œLake of the Godsโ€). ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ According to Mohawk legend, its steady, mysterious waters are home to the eternal spirits of the Three Sisters ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿซ˜๐ŸŽƒ โ€” Corn, Beans, and Squash โ€” guardians of life and harvest, tied to Sky Womanโ€™s creation story. Each Spring, offerings and prayers were made to these spirits for a bountiful harvest and harmony with the Creator. ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒพ I have two sisters, and together with me we make threeโ€ฆ just like the Three Sisters who watch over the bay. ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ‘ง๐ŸŒŠ Iโ€™ve known local artist Joan Reive for many years. She has lovingly painted and quilted the Bay of Quinte for decades โ€” including her beautiful โ€œLake Vistasโ€ quilt that captures the light and spirit of these waters so well. What a special place โ€” where ancient stories, family, and the living land all come together. #FairyTaleFlash โœจ #BayOfQuinte #Onokenoga #ThreeSisters #NatureSpirits #Folklore #JoanReive ๐Ÿ’š #LocalArtist ๐ŸŽจ#LakeVistas2 #Quilter #Belleville ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ ๐ŸŽจ Joan Reive holding her quilt โ€œLake Vistas #2โ€. It comes directly from the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) website, where the quilt was featured in their global exhibition My Corner of the World. ๐Ÿ“ธ Bob House is a photographer known for documenting Canadian quilt artists and their work.
