On August 1, 2026, Christen Phillips, a 34-year-old mother of three working as a DoorDash driver, was brutally attacked in Jacksonville, North Carolina, following an apparent road rage incident. The Incident The Trigger: Late at night on August 1, Phillips was making a delivery when she stopped at an intersection (Western Boulevard and Gum Branch Road). When the traffic light turned green, the vehicle in front of her did not move, so she honked her horn. The Pursuit: The driver of the vehicle—later identified by law enforcement as Stanley Shockley, 44—moved out of her way but began following her car to her delivery location in the Shamrock Drive area. The Attack: After Phillips dropped off the food order and walked back toward her car, Shockley allegedly jumped out of his vehicle and struck her repeatedly in the head and face with a small wooden bat or baton before fleeing the scene. Injuries and Impact Phillips suffered severe, life-threatening injuries, including multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds, a fractured cheekbone, and spinal fluid leakage. She required emergency medical treatment, including surgery to insert a titanium plate into her skull. Investigation and Charges The Onslow County Sheriff's Office conducted an extensive investigation, reviewing local surveillance footage, license plate/vehicle data, and public tips to identify the suspect's vehicle. Prosecutors noted that Shockley lived just six houses down from where the assault took place on Shamrock Drive and allegedly wiped his Ring camera footage following the incident. Stanley Shockley was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was ordered held in the Onslow County Jail without bond. #NorthCarolina #RoadRage #HateCrime
