#AncientGreece #UnderWorld #History 4. TALES FROM THE UNDERWORLD In Greek Mythology, the Underworld is the vast realm beneath the earth where every mortal soul journeys after death, ruled by Hades and Persephone, the King and Queen of the Dead. It was not simply a place of punishment, but a complete kingdom with its own rivers, judges, and guardians, where the righteous found peace in Elysium and the wicked suffered eternal torments in Tartarus. The living were never meant to enter this domain, yet five mortals dared to descend while still alive and return to tell the tale: Orpheus, the greatest musician who ever lived, journeyed there driven by love; Psyche sought Persephone's aid to win back Eros; Heracles descended to capture Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of death; Theseus attempted to kidnap Persephone herself; and Odysseus sailed to the edge of the world to consult the spirits of the dead. Each would pay Charon the ferryman to cross the River Styx, face monsters and gods in the darkness below, and learn that the boundary between life and death can be crossed, but never without cost.
