This is great news for Peru. I recently chatted with a friend of mine in Lima and there has been quite a bit of instability in Peru in the last 10 years. I'm hoping with another Fujimori as president there can be a semblance of stability for the region. Peru should be an economic powerhouse, seeing as it's the gateway to Brazil for shipping routes from China. However, the cartel's involvement in illegal mining operations and the drug trade are both major obstacles for the region. Another major challenge has been the large influx of immigrants from Venezuela in the last 15 years. Here's hoping that Peru can follow El Salvador's example by cracking down on crime and strengthening its relationship with the United States. Lima could become a competing destination to El Salvador for American expats with its near-perfect climate and coastal scenery.
