A new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll suggests Americans are increasingly skeptical about both the economy and the nation’s political institutions. A slim majority, 51%, say capitalism is working “not too well” or “not at all well,” while 56% believe American democracy isn’t functioning well. Large majorities also say billionaires, lobbyists, and major corporations wield too much influence in Washington, and only 6% express a great deal of confidence in Congress.
