SUNSPOTS OBSERVED AND PREDICTED COUNTS FOR DECEMBER 2024 From The Geodesy Operations Office And CodeReco_ https://www.twitch.tv/codereco_ #earth #sun #sunspots #heliophysics #space #geodesy #geophysics Featured Online Video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/ Keyword: Variance. Below is the plot of the monthly average sunspot count (green diamonds) and the model-predicted monthly average (red line), from January 2008, the end of Solar Cycle 23 and beginning of Cycle 24. The black line is a 12-month running-average of the monthly average count. December count came in at 154.5 with the predicted (old model) at 25.6, respectively. These compare to November’s values at 152.5 with the predicted (old model) at 20.9, respectively. We note the Observational Series of sunspots continues to increase at the end of 2024. We plot the NOAA new prediction model, magenta line, for comparison with the old model. The new model has not been validated by the WDC-SILSO, Royal Observatory of Belgium, Brussels and many other solar research organizations world wide. Discussion of the new model will be held at the American Geophysics Union Annual Meeting, December 2023, and the European Geoscience General Assembly, April 2024. In comparison to the long term series of sunspots we are still at quite a deficit of sunspots, relatively speaking. Data Credit: WDC-SILSO, Royal Observatory of Belgium, Brussels.
