🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July, Celebrating 250 years – Independence Day! 🇺🇸 The Black Robe Regiment Without the courage and conviction of the Black Robe Regiment, there very likely would never have been a free United States of America. We might still be living under British control today. The “Black Robe Regiment” was the name the British gave to America’s patriotic pastors and ministers. They earned the title because they preached in black robes — both Black and White clergy alike. These bold men of God were so influential that the British openly blamed them for igniting and fueling the American Revolution. From the very beginning, these pastors did far more than preach on Sundays. They recruited and trained their parishioners to serve as Minutemen and soldiers. Many of them actually led their congregations into battle. Some rose to the rank of General in the Continental Army. Their pulpits became powerful engines of liberty, thundering with calls to resist tyranny and embrace the God-given freedoms that would birth a new nation. John Adams, our second President, rejoiced in their impact. He wrote that “the pulpits thundered and lightened every Sabbath” against King George III’s despotism. Adams praised these pastors as among “the most conspicuous, the most ardent, and the most influential” leaders in “the awakening and revival of American principles and feelings” that led to our independence. One powerful example stands on April 19, 1775 — the very first day of the Revolutionary War. In Lexington, Massachusetts, the pastor of the local church was Rev. Jonas Clark. For years he had preached liberty and urged his people to prepare to defend it. When the smoke cleared after the Battle of Lexington, the American dead were all members of his congregation. The very first blood shed for American liberty was spilled by men who had been spiritually fed and prepared from Rev. Clark’s pulpit. The British hated what these preachers represented. One British official bitterly claimed that if it hadn’t been for the preachers, America would still be a loyal and “happy” British colony. On this Independence Day, let us remember and give thanks for the Black Robe Regiment — faithful men who understood that true liberty flows from Almighty God and must be defended with both prayer and action. May their bold faith and sacrificial spirit rise again in our pulpits, our homes, and our hearts. God bless you. God bless America. Happy Birthday, USA! 🎆 #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay #Happy4th #BlackRobeRegiment #FaithAndFreedom #USA #America #BornForSuchATimeAsThis #GodBlessAmerica
