@Darkknight1 I gotta disagree with you here on one point. The killers would not need a silencer in this scenario. Gunshots (like all noises) are caused by air pressure vibrations that our ears recognize as sound. But when you fire a gun inside of a house, the house absorbs those air pressure vibrations, and keeps people outside of the house from hearing the gunshots (though it may be VERY loud inside the house). In this case the house itself acts as a silencer, and it's pretty effective too! Of course, that assumes you have the windows closed. Its less effective if the windows are open, and a lot less effective if you are shooting right next to a window. In these cases, the sound will be reduced somewhat, but still might be edible to those nearby. Reports state that the family was killed by a .32 pistol. .32 ACP is a pretty mild round and has much less noise than .380, .38 Special, 9mm, or .45 ACP pistols do (those would be the most common handgun rounds of that era). Interestingly, .32 pistols would make a good choice for an assassin or hit man's gun. .32 handguns tend to be pocket sized and conceal quite well, but they also hit harder than .22 and .25 pocket guns without being much louder. You could easily fire one inside a house without neighbors being able to hear it.
