We woke up this morning, walked across the clover- and dandelion-filled lawn to the garden, and just poked around a bit before we went to milk the goats. Corn's a good height, beans are flowering, peppers are a little sad but with some heat they'll pick up (while we humans droop). The cat is intent upon catching a grasshopper. It's all so normal, so very right, quiet and beautiful, and very much the way I like to begin a day. Neither my wife nor I has any idea of what's on the "news" since the things we checked up on this morning were all living, growing things. The painting below I call Mother Nature Holding the Future, and it is an expression of this thought: our lives are better when we live them in balance with and respect of nature, when we focus on the timeless and beautiful things that grace every generation: our families, and the good earth.
