There's a lot of open land around and near where I live in eastern Washington -- I'm always struck by this whenever we travel to the "other side" (western Washington) where most of the urban centers are. There, you don't find yourself on isolated, nearly empty roads, where your main companion is the sky, and where you're free to pull over to the side, stretch your legs, nod hello to a deer in the field. But at the same time I'm grateful for the people who thrive and enjoy being in urban centers, because otherwise the wide open spaces would become narrow and closed. I call this painting, Eastbound.
