In Finland, a petition signed by 10,000 people calls for a boycott of Israel

More than 10,000 people in Finland are asking the public broadcaster Yle to put pressure on the Eurovision Song Contest organizer, the EBU, to exclude Israel from the 2025 edition, due to the war in Gaza, reports AFP.

The channel received two petitions on Monday: one signed by over 500 music and cultural industry professionals, the other by over 10,000 people.

With the world's biggest singing competition less than two months away, the signatories also called on Yle to withdraw the Finnish contestant from the competition if Israel were to take part.

“It is contrary to our values that a state that has committed genocide and engages in a policy of occupation should be offered a golden opportunity to improve its image under the guise of music,” the signatories asserted.
