Léon Degrelle and Otto Skorzeny At the end of the 1950s, most likely in La Carlina, Léon Degrelle was photographed in uniform with his friend, Standartenführer (Colonel) Otto Skorzeny. Note the collar tabs bearing the Standartenführer insignia sewn on by aide-de-camp Robert Du Welz in the early hours of August 2, 1945. The wedding in Madrid of Léon Degrelle's youngest daughter, Marie-Christine, to a young Galician lawyer on October 9, 1969, was once again the subject of media hype. The Flemish newspaper Telstar (now defunct) took the opportunity to question the financial resources of "Don León José de Ramírez Reina, alias Léon Degrelle .“ It obtained this interesting conclusion from Otto Skorzeny: ”Insiders know that Léon Degrelle has had his ups and downs financially. It was mainly his friend Otto Skorzeny, Mussolini's liberator, who was always there to protect him when things went wrong.
